KLA, KOSOVO LIBERATION ARMY - UÇK, USHTRIE ÇLIRIMTARE E KÖSOVES
Most of the following pictures come from July 1998, when I succeeded - first reporter ever and together with two colleagues writers, Fausto Biloslavo and Gian Micalessin - to cross the heavily-guarded Albanian / Yugoslav border, entering Kosovo with a group of KLA volunteer fighters. At that time no journalist had yet reached Unik, the capital of so called Liberated Territories which was almost under siege from serbian military and definitely depending, for whatever need or supply, on these "convoys" crossing almost every night the border high on the mountains (up to 8000 feet a.s.l. in Deravica). By the way, these group of fighters - most of them volunteers - were to endure a risky trip due to serbian border police equipped with night-vision devices, to booby traps spread all over mountain paths and all but sporadic mortar shelling.
